dropline gnome status
dropline gnome 2.6 is getting closer to a release. all of the gnome packages have been built and, with the exception of the setup tools and gstreamer stuff, working exceptionally well. i still need to update the xfree86 packages to xorg (that's tonight's project), and add samba-3 to the distribution, which is now required for gnome-vfs. once those two packages are in, i'll try and figure out the gstreamer issues, because currently nothing that uses gstreamer works.

once those three areas are under control, i'll try to put up a set of testing packages so that i can get some feedback before the official release, tennatively scheduled for mid-april.

Samba 3.

May want to mention:
******************* Attention! Achtung! Kree! *********************

Beginning with Samba 3.0.2, passwords for accounts with a last
change time (LCT-XXX in smbpasswd, sambaPwdLastSet attribute in
ldapsam, etc...) of zero (0) will be regarded as uninitialized
strings. This will cause authentication to fail for such
accounts. If you have valid passwords that meet this criteria,
you must update the last change time to a non-zero value. If you
do not, then 'pdbedit --force-initialized-passwords' will disable
these accounts and reset the password hashes to a string of X's.

******************* Attention! Achtung! Kree! *********************

For those people who may be using their desktop (!) as a samba server ;)

Last time I tried it, it crashed on me :/ I guess I won't be using Dropline until X.org is stable on my system...

when did you try it, and which branch did you use? x.org-release-1 is essentially xfree86-4.4.0 but without the new license; on my systems, it's actually been *more* stable than xfree86 was :) there's also a. x.org-current tree which houses new developments, and as a result wouldn't be as stable as x.org-release.
